I personally have no issue with either, though I do prefer realistic art. Manga is always pleasant to view as well, though.
But something(actually many somethings) brought something of a clash between the two styles.
A dear friend(of whom I will not name)'s father seems to think manga is a bad thing, and can't tell the difference between the styles.
The following will be me addressing the flawed opinions this person seems to have developed.
First, lets assess what the manga or anime-style is like.
The father was shown a group's gallery of foxes, to which he said they were all like anime(even my own art, which kindof led me to do this).
I can't speak for others but I can speak for BuryTheMaid(another person whose art was falsely labeled) and myself when I say he is quite mistaken.
While anime people and more realistic people are usually easily distinguished between themselves, animals are often not, and have many different styles and these are just a few.
Little facial detail and basic general-shape anatomy. Still cute tho.
don't piss it off tho
Hate the style, love the anime.
Again, hate the style, love the anime.
and can you believe it? ITS ANIME! :U
Manga and anime alike have specific goals throughout their works, set in the very first episode or pages.
Some are made to be beautiful and creative while others are meant to tell a story and enlighten you with interesting plot-twists and thought-provoking events.
Some series are simply not designed to look photo-realistic like you seem to want them to look(plus it would make it vastly more difficult to produce).
These pieces are not more or less, but simply different and shouldn't be persecuted for their beloved creativity.
It is admirable that you wish your daughter to advance in her talent, but to enforce your own preferences onto her is simply pressuring and stressful.
Find out her own quest before simply laying one out to her.
If she seeks to draw photo-realistically, point out anatomy flaws and offer constructive criticism rather than simply saying "Eh, it looks like some anime shit.".
If she wants to draw a similar style to anime, then let her do so. As I said, it is not less, it is not more, it is only a different style from what you like. Simply. Different.
And there is plenty of time to allow her to explore all the many possibilities.
Now, this friend of mine isn't alone in this;
-My own dad often points out that my work is similar to anime and manga styles, to which I blatantly disagree.
-My dad had taken me to a comic book store to display some of my more detailed works and before this man even looked at my drawing he went on to assure me that manga like kingdom hearts and such is 'in'(to which made me angry for the next couple days).

Side-Character Animals
These anime canines usually consist of a round head, two beady eyes, and a small snout with a little cutie smile, like so;Little facial detail and basic general-shape anatomy. Still cute tho.
Ginga Densetsu Weed Animals
Bulbous anatomy, boxy paws, boxy snout, and wide human eyes, like so;don't piss it off tho
Hate the style, love the anime.
Fruits Basket Animals
Little to no detail with minimal shading and near lifeless eyes.Again, hate the style, love the anime.
Princess Mononoke Animals
A sound amount of detail, gorgeous animation, though human-like eyes.Wolf's Rain Animals
A sound amount of detail, iffy anatomy at times, as animation is hard work.and can you believe it? ITS ANIME! :U
THESE ARE ANIME ANIMALS

What about you? Anyone else's art been falsely labeled?
I'm Moving!
I've found that its time to start fresh, and to focus more on personal artwork and focus more on improving myself as an artist.
I won't delete this account, but know that I won't be looking at any of my messages from here on, though I will be looking for a few hours or so to check notes.
If you have unfinished business with me, note this account and I'll link you to my new account.
Also note me if you simply want to know where I am;
and if you want to sherlock who I am, I would hint to my groups. c:
Farewell, fellow artists. Baah!

Looks pretty sweet!
Very legit and complex, but rightfully so, as there are some interesting features.
I may be joining them soon, as I have a caribou character just waiting to be reborn.
10 Features
Cause I've absolutely everything better to do.
The first nine people to comment on this, I will put their name and three of their art/stories I like the most.
All you have to do, in turn, is make another of these journals with me at the top of your list.
And while you need not do this, I'll be adding a sentence or two to each work I feature here, explaining what about it I liked.

- I always preferred paintings above most digital methods and this is really pleasing to my eyes. The colors are warm and pleasant and its one of your best works, in my opinion, as it shows form and pose beautifully.

It just pisses me off that the entire spectrum of anime (which, in my opinion is not a straight-cut thing, but more of a fluid group of similarities between artists) is always lumped together as one collective thing. Some anime styles are extremely exaggerated or deformed which may or may not be pleasing to the viewer, which is completely fine. Some people dislike Picasso and that's perfectly fine. Art styles are what make artists unique from one another. Styles are what the artist is comfortable with, not necessarily catered specifically to their audience. Not everyone is going to be satisfied anyway.
I personally dislike a lot of American style cartoons myself. Many of them (despite enjoying the shows themselves - ie Ed, Edd, and Eddy, Rugrats, As Told by Ginger, Wild Thornberries, Rocko's Modern Life, Ren and Stimpy, The Simpsons, etc) are what I would consider to be ugly and yet no one criticizes them. At least not to the same degree as anime so often is.
I could come up with some guesses as to why this is, but regardless it comes back to the same thing: art styles vary and not everyone likes them. So as an artist I think it's important to focus on what makes you happy. Being forced to use a style you don't like isn't going to make you enjoy it. (Though I do believe that branching out and trying new things is also important, and I'm in no way knocking realism. Just not when it's forced.)
I hope this makes sense, I'm on mobile ugh. Apologies for typos.
